Thursday 11th February

Bus back from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh; considerably better journey - bus did not break down once! Slightly strange hotel directly opposite the genocide museum... hmmm.

Went out into PP to visit Phnom Wat - the major Buddhist temple in the city. Slightly bizarre, reminds you of those packed antique (aka junk) shops, with random pottery and statuettes littering the place. It seems that modern technology as been embraced with the addition of Christmas tree lights and various flashing displays. Lots of the architecture surrounding the Wat is reminiscent of the ruins at Ankor Wat; lion statues, naga (snake heads) hand rails etc. All concrete this time.

Outside there were people with cages stuffed full of small birds, selling them apparently for people to release. The poor little things looked miserable.

Back to the hotel for dinner beneath the genocide sign - actually the food was excellent.
